I’m So Thankful for You Jay

This holiday season, what I am most thankful for is my husband.

When someone is diagnosed with cancer, the troops rally around the cancer patient and their family. It has been no different with our friends and family. What people don’t realize is the incredible challenge it is for the spouse.

The first year, 2012, of this cancer journey was pretty easy for me mentally.  We fought cancer and kicked  its dupa.  When Jan 2013 came around, things changed.  I went on new treatments multiple times, clinical trials, more radiation, etc. It was much more of a challenge. The past 5 weeks, however (and counting), have been the most challenging to date.  This infection (cellulitis) has knocked me down. I lay on my stomach and side every day. I have undergone incredible fatigue, mood swings, I cry at the drop of a hat, have needed a wheelchair and so much more.

My husband is doing it all. Many times I am over the top emotionally and I have no idea why. He is unbelievably patient and understanding. I try to explain what’s going on, but I don’t always have an answer.  Also my memory has been bad too, which has got to be a real challenge.

In 2013, I had Gamma Knife, whole brain radiation, lost my hair and eyelashes, couldn’t drive, couldn’t think, gained 30 pounds, lost 40 pounds and I’m sure there is more. The whole time, Jay has been by my side.

Jay is my husband, but he is also my best friend. He’s the love of my life. He is also a dad, chauffeur, cook, cleaner, furniture mover, nurse, maid, musician and so much more.  He often goes unappreciated. So this Thanksgiving, all my love and thanks go to him for EVERYTHING.  I wouldn’t be here without him. I love you sweetheart.
