For years I have been telling people that I want to live to be 100.  In fact, one of my goals in life is to have Willard Scott show my lovely face on the Smucker’s Jar.The Smuckers Jar

Never heard of the Smucker’s jar?  Well, if you watch the Today Show, Willard Scott wishes a happy birthday to 100+ year old ladies and gentlemen and he shows their faces on a Smucker’s jar label. Now, although Mr. Scott will likely not be around when I’m 100, it is nonetheless, my goal. || Read more

I have lived in the Western New York area my entire life, except for a short time between  2004-2006 when my husband and I moved to Virginia with our children. While there, I started attending a Pentecostal Church (Victory Tabernacle).  Wow, it was a far cry from the Catholic Church I was used to. I jumped right in though and joined their worship team, which was like a Baptist choir. It was an amazing group. It was there that I let Jesus into my heart. || Read more

Last week I show up for chemo and the doc says my liver count is high.  No chemo.   I was a bit concerned because over the past 10  months I haven’t missed a day of chemo.

So, I wait a week and go back to find out the results of my latest blood work. My liver count is normal.  Hmmmm.  Doc was a bit surprised by that, but its all good so we proceeded with chemo.

A funny thing happened at chemo.

Have you ever tried to go to the bathroom with an IV in your hand?  Well I have. You should try it some time. LOL || Read more

Yes I’m a martial artist.  I’ve been taking Tae Kwon Do at Master Khechen’s Martial Arts & Fitness Academy for a couple of years now.  Both my daughters are junior black belts. My Kayla has continued on and hopes to be an instructor.

A little about how this journey started.  At first, I would just sit and watch the girls work out. I, however, would be squirming in my chair as if I was Rocky.  I wanted to get in there and do some punching.  I love to punch.  Go figure.

So tonight Patty and Austin went to the Buffalo Bills game as guests of former Buffalo Bill Chris Draft and Roswell Cancer Institute. Patty is the face of lung cancer survivors. Here are some pics of the website coverage Patty received today.

I know they will have some amazing pics from the event that will posted either tonight, or tomorrow (maybe some video too) so come back and check those out. Thanks to Chris, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, The Chris Draft Family Foundation and all the members of Team Draft.

How did I get lung cancer? That’s a good question. Doctors always said that lung cancer is one of the easiest cancer’s to avoid, if you just quit smoking. Whew that’s good, cause I don’t want lung cancer.

Never having chemo before, I had no idea what I was getting into. I was naive and set myself up for this extremely complicated procedure.

Turns out, chemo isn’t so scary.  It’s a lot easier than Gamma Knife. You basically sit in a chair and they hook you up to an IV.  At the onset, the whole chemo process took approximately six hours. They had me on Alimta and Cisplatin. It was a long day with heavy duty chemo.

I was diagnosed on January 29, 2012 with Stage IV Lung Cancer and was originally given one year to live.  How the heck can I say it’s just cancer?

Honestly, from the beginning I felt like it was a mistake. That someone was going to tell me that they got the names mixed up.  It just didn’t feel real. I mean, come on now, I was taking martial arts three to fours days a week, I don’t smoke and eat pretty good (except for those darn chocolate chip cookies).  How could this crazy busy woman have Stage IV Lung Cancer?
